Literacy Week – Celebrating Amazing Women
Date: August 29, 2017 Posted by: Camilla Horn
From 21-24 August, we celebrated Literacy Week at the College.
Wednesday saw staff attired as a variety of amazing women as they enjoyed a beautiful morning tea in the iCentre.
Also on Wednesday it was our privilege to have Mojgan Shamsalipoor as a ‘Living Book’. Mojgan spoke to students and staff of her experiences as a young woman who fled Iran to seek asylum in Australia. Here started her continuing quest to be freed from indefinite detention, be reunited with the love of her life, and establish a future in this country. Students and staff found her to be a truly inspirational, amazing woman.
It was the girls’ turn on Thursday, with the addition of some really large games to keep everyone entertained at morning tea. Once again, many and varied amazing women were represented in the girls’ costumes.
Community members contributed the stories of the amazing women in their lives, with these displayed throughout the week.
In the words of Jorge Luis Borges, “I have always imagined that paradise will be some kind of library”.
