It is with great joy and enormous pride that we share with you the senior outcomes of our class of 2023. Together we celebrate these fine achievements which are a testimony to the calibre and tenacity of our students. We recognise and acknowledge that this is a journey that has been shared with a strong network of supporting parents and caregivers coupled with the care and diligence of an exceptional teaching team.

At Mount Alvernia College we know that the culminating senior achievements of our students are just one part of a Franciscan education. With a mission to build courage, curiosity, and compassion in all that we do, we could not be prouder of our Year 12’s and their achievements this year. We firmly recognise that behind these statistics and numbers rests the unseen personal narratives; stories of challenge, set-backs, disappointment, joy and triumph.

We also acknowledge those individual successes of students whose results may not convert to academic honours but for whom the achievement was substantial. Today we stand beside each and every one of our students and commend them for all that they are and all that they will continue to be as strong and capable alumnae of Mount Alvernia College. A future of great possibilities now unfolds for each of our graduates as they harness their gifts and talents for good, and we cannot wait to hear about their next steps.

Congratulations Class of 2023, we are so proud of you!

Deputy Principal - Teaching & Learning Comments

For the last three years, at every awards assembly at Mount Alvernia College, I have ended my remarks with a quote from the great Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

These words are intended to remind students that excellence is achieved through routine process, applied over time, rather than single acts.

The results of the Senior graduating cohort of 2023, speak to a growing maturing and understanding that anything worth having in life comes with the willingness to strive. May I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate each of our graduates on the ‘strive’ and on the remarkable outcomes of their endeavours. While there are tremendous stories of record individual growth in these outcomes, we remain steadfast in our belief that schools must serve the interests of the whole as well as individuals. These results speak to a cohort that was united in its aspiration to be the best they could be, to support each other, and work determinedly to the end. There is clear evidence in this data that schools can be authentically inclusive, whilst still achieving the highest possible academic outcomes across ranging pathways, and in doing so, prepare young people for the challenges of a future that will require agility.

We are so proud of their openness to continued improvement and willingness to work to the best of their ability, until the very end. The way they have partnered with their teachers and families, to realise their tremendous potential, is note-worthy, and we have tremendous belief that they will go on, not only to be people of great success, but people of great value to the world.

Enjoy the moment Seniors of 2023. You have most definitely earned it.
