At Mount Alvernia College, faith in action is realised through the classroom teaching and learning of religion and the religious life of the school.

By learning about religion and experiencing its application through prayer, worship, ethical living and service, it is our hope that students will develop the agency to shape their own meaning and purpose; be capable critical thinkers; engage in respectful dialogue; and value diversity and global perspectives in order to fulfil their role as changemakers for a socially just and ecologically sustainable future

Religious Education

Religious Education at Mount Alvernia College is compulsory for all students. The curriculum in Years 7-10 is based on the Archdiocese of Brisbane’s Religious Education Curriculum P-12. In Years 11-12, students can elect to study Religion and Ethics (a QCAA Applied Subject) or Study of Religion (a QCAA General Subject) or Religion, Meaning and Life (an alternative non-accredited course developed by Brisbane Catholic Education).

The content of the Religion Curriculum P-12 is organised into four interrelated strands: Sacred Texts; Beliefs; Church; and Christian Life. While the curriculum privileges the Catholic Christian tradition, students also study other world religions. They consider the role of religion in shaping not only personal beliefs, but also religious and ethical responses to a range of issues both locally and globally.
